A Ucon Elementary teacher heard about the Day Family home-grown rainforest and asked to come see it. When she came, she loved it so much that she asked us to help construct one in her classroom. We said that we would love to help.

Some of the dads and moms helped build the scaffolding for it. There was a little table in the middle and places where the teacher could sit and read stories to them and a place for the kids to play. There was a hole in the giant tree for the kids to climb in and out through the large tree like a secret door into the little room.

My kids and I went once a week for 6 weeks. The classroom children did most of the work. I just showed them how. Nik and Nathan helped do some construction and Heidi had fun with her little friends creating the vegetation and the animal. Ben helped where he could and enjoyed the process. A student brought the giant snake and others brought other stuffed animals from home. It looked awesome and was the envy of all the other classes.

The kids loved playing in it until the fire marshal told them to take it down because it was a fire hazard.
